Cookie-Richtlinie

This Cookie Policy explains how Medienconnect uses cookies and similar technologies on our website, and how you can control them. When you visit medienconnect.de, we may place small text files (cookies) on your device to help the site function, improve your experience, and understand how our journalism is read. You can choose which non-essential cookies to accept or reject at any time via our Cookie Settings tool, and you can find more detail in our privacy policy.

What cookies does Medienconnect use and why?

We use three broad categories of cookies: strictly necessary, functional and performance, and marketing. Strictly necessary cookies are essential for the site to work—for example, to remember your cookie preferences or keep you logged in during a session. Functional and performance cookies help us improve our service by counting page visits, tracking which articles are most popular, and making sure the site loads quickly. Marketing cookies (including those from third-party advertising partners) are used to show you relevant ads and measure the effectiveness of our commercial partnerships. None of these cookies allow us to identify you personally unless you have voluntarily provided personal data elsewhere on the site.

Specific examples of cookies we may set include a session cookie from our content management system, a Google Analytics cookie for anonymised traffic analysis, and an affiliate-tracking cookie from partners such as Awin or Skimlinks. We do not use cookies to build detailed profiles without your consent, and any data collected is processed in line with our editorial policy and sources and standards.

How do I give or withdraw consent?

When you first visit medienconnect.de, a cookie banner appears asking you to accept or reject non-essential cookies. You can click “Cookie Settings” to see a detailed list of each cookie, its purpose, and the third party that sets it, and then toggle each category on or off. Your choice is stored for six months, after which you will be prompted again. You can also withdraw or change your consent at any time by clicking the “Cookie Settings” link that appears in the footer of every page.

If you decline non-essential cookies, only strictly necessary cookies will be set, and the site will still function normally. For further information on how we process your personal data, please read our privacy policy. To exercise your data rights or ask a question about cookies, contact our data protection team at privacy@medienconnect.de.

How this works in practice

Imagine you visit medienconnect.de to read an article about Swedish economic policy. A banner appears at the bottom of the screen. You click “Cookie Settings” and see that we use a Google Analytics cookie to count how many people read that article and a Skimlinks cookie to track any purchases made through affiliate links. You decide to allow functional cookies but block marketing cookies. After saving your choice, the site remembers your preference. Six months later you return: the banner reappears, and you can update your settings. If you later click a sponsored link, no tracking cookie will be set because you declined marketing cookies.

Who is responsible for this policy?

Medienconnect is owned and operated by Medienconnec Media Ltd., a private company registered in Gibraltar (company number C 92009, Malta Business Registry) with a registered office at Office 9, Business Centre, Valletta, 0000. Our editorial team, led by Chefredaktör Alexander Seidel, oversees all content, but cookie management and data protection are handled centrally. If you have any concerns about how cookies are used on our site, please email privacy@medienconnect.de or write to our registered office. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the relevant data protection authority in your jurisdiction.

For more about who we are and how we operate, see our About Us page and our ownership and funding disclosure. If you need to report a specific cookie-related issue, you can also use our contact form.
